Why I started Sloane's Table...
My connection to baking isn’t rooted in childhood memories or family recipes. I didn’t grow up in a kitchen filled with flour-dusted counters or handwritten recipe cards passed down through generations.
Baking entered my life in a very different way: as an escape.
From ages 6 to 21, I spent the majority of my life in a pool as a competitive springboard diver, training more than 20 hours a week. Diving required precision, discipline, and relentless repetition - qualities that unknowingly laid the groundwork for how I approach baking today. But during those same years, I began experiencing chronic back and hip pain that doctors struggled to diagnose or treat. I was passed from specialist to specialist, often given temporary fixes instead of answers.
Pain slowly took over my life.
As someone already quiet by nature, I withdrew even further. Relationships with my family became strained, friendships faded, and my world grew smaller and smaller. For years, the only consistent bright spots in my life were doctor appointments (some of the only structured social interaction I had) and baking.
I never consciously decided baking would be my coping mechanism, it happened naturally. But over time, what began as distraction turned into fascination. I became obsessed with understanding how recipes were built, how ingredients affected structure and texture, and why certain baked goods tasted the way they did.
Growing up in Texas meant incredible Tex-Mex and BBQ, and with an Italian father, unforgettable traditional Italian meals. But when it came to desserts, nothing compared to what I could recreate myself from my favorite baking blogs. Baking became the one area of my life where I felt both control and creativity... and eventually, purpose.

The Turning Point: Greece 2019
In 2019, I was a junior at Dartmouth College studying Classics abroad in Greece. That experience changed everything for me. Until then, I had followed the path I was expected to take. But being immersed in history, culture, and food opened my eyes to an entirely different kind of life, one rooted in creativity and storytelling through food.
I vividly remember sitting on buses traveling through tiny Peloponnesian towns, binge-listening to Radio Cherry Bombe episodes about women building careers in the food world. Something clicked. For the first time, I could see a life that aligned with both my passion and my physical reality.
I knew then that food (specifically baking) wasn’t just a hobby. It was my future.
Turning Passion into a Business
By spring 2020, I had launched Sloane’s Table with a clear vision: to create bakery-worthy recipes that home bakers could confidently recreate from scratch.
I was still applying for traditional jobs at the time to appease my family, but deep down I knew I could never sustain a corporate career while managing chronic pain. And then, like for so many others, the pandemic shifted everything. I found myself at home finishing my degree with very few job prospects and one undeniable opportunity: to fully commit to the dream I had felt forming in Greece.
What began as passion quickly became purpose, and then a business.
Sloane’s Table exists because baking gave me a way to rebuild my life on my own terms. Chronic pain didn’t just influence this path, it made it possible. It taught me patience, precision, resilience, and the value of slowing down and doing things intentionally.
Those lessons now live inside every recipe I create.
